Going for the green with smoothies

Really go for the green this month and whip up a green smoothie for yourself. These healthy smoothie recipes come from “Herb: Mastering the Art of Cooking with Cannabis” courtesy of chefs Melissa Parks and Laurie Wolf. They are high in essential ingredients, and the addition of avocado makes them smooth and creamy. If you like your smoothies extra-frosty, throw a few ice cubes in the blender along with the rest of the ingredients.


Pistachio-Lime Smoothie

Ingredients (2 servings)

1-1/2 cups almond milk

1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted

1 small banana, sliced

1 whole lime, cut in chunks

¼ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (from 2 large limes) or concentrate

¼ cup shelled, unsalted pistachios, plus 1 Tbsp. chopped pistachios for garnish

2 to 4 Tbsp. honey (depending on how sweet you like it)

2 tsp. canna-coconut oil


Put all ingredients except for chopped pistachios in a blender and blend on medium speed until smooth.

Divide smoothie between two glasses and garnish each with ½ tablespoon of pistachios.

Green & Oh-So-Groovy Smoothie

Ingredients (2 servings)

2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted

1 cup water

1 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 cup packed fresh spinach*

½ cup packed fresh cilantro

2 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lime juice

2 Tbsp. agave nectar

2 tsp. canna-coconut oil

*substitute any kind of kale (steamed and chopped) for spinach.


Put avocados in a blender along with water and lemon juice. Blend on medium speed until smooth.

Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Divide smoothie between two glasses.
