The state has changed the grace period for medical cannabis cardholders who are in receipt of their approval letter but have yet to receive their card from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Medical marijuana patients may purchase in dispensaries using their approval letter for 60 days from the letter’s date of issuance, allowing patients access to medicine until they receive their medical marijuana card from the Nevada DMV.
Prior to this provision, newly-approved patients had a 14-day grace period during which they could purchase medical marijuana in a dispensary with their approval letter.
The grace period has been extended to 60 days and goes into effect immediately. This extension also applies to already-issued approval letters that bear the language “14-day grace period.”
Beyond 60 days of the date on the approval letter, a valid medical marijuana card issued by the Nevada DMV is required to purchase medical marijuana at Nevada dispensaries.
